Are your sessions indoors or on location?

We offer indoor - 70 degree year around - nobody freezing - nobody sweating - no wind - no rain - no snow - sessions! Our fine art portraits require very controlled lighting and a simple background, so our studio is set up specifically for that. Plus, it allows us to efficiently photograph, cull and show your pups portraits to you for selection all within an hour!

Can you photograph multiple dogs together?

We will do our best to accommodate your request for multiple dogs! If you wish to do this, you will still need to book individual sessions for each dog back-to-back. Each dog will have their own credit to spend on an individual portrait. Between the sessions we will bring the dogs together for a portrait. You will need to bring one person per dog for these types of sessions, and group portraits are not included in your credit (but can be purchased separately). If you have more than two dogs, please contact us so we can work out details!

Can people be included in the dog portraits?

The Heritage Hound Company is set up for dogs only. However, you can create a custom session through our people portrait business www.whitneyscottphotography.com and we will be happy to bring your dog into any individual or family session you would like!

What about cats? Guinea pigs? Snakes? Any other animals?

At this time we are a dog only studio. What can we say? We’re dog people!

Do you photograph puppies? Is there an age requirement?

We will happily photograph your puppy! So many stages of a dog’s life are precious, and we would love to capture them all.

Can you accommodate older dogs?

Absolutely! Our time with our dogs is so brief, and often we don’t realize how special this relationship is until we see the silver faces and the faltering legs. We have a ramp up to our photography area and are happy to work with you on any needs you have to make this session extra special for your elderly dog. Please make notes on your lead form to let us know what to expect and how we can help.

Can I bring my own props?

Yes! Please! We welcome anything you would like to bring to make the session more personal for you. Whether that is a dog’s toy, a blanket, even a special chair. We will do our best to accommodate any special props you would like to bring.

How many photos do you take?

We consider our job a single image assignment. We are looking at creating THE portrait that captures your dog perfectly. Sometimes that takes 5 images. Sometimes it takes 25 images. (sometimes it takes 10 treats… sometimes 50…;) Our goal is one ideal image, but we do find that many times there are more to love, so we do have options for purchasing images.

What do most people purchase?

We are a fine art dog portrait studio, so obviously clients come to us for wall art! Typically our clients will purchase a single piece of artwork for the wall. We have four size options to fit your space and several options for finishing and framing as well. The most popular selection is a 30 inch mounted canvas. Also popular are folio boxes with prints and digital files, which are available as an add-on after your portrait purchase.

Do you sell digital files?

Yes. You will receive a matching digital file for anything you purchase as wall art. After your wall art purchase you do have the option to purchase additional favorites as digital files and printed products.

What can I expect to spend?

While some clients are content to select one digital file and simply use their credit, most clients will select large scale wall art as well additional images and spend $1000-$5000 or more. Most land somewhere in the middle. We will work with you to find the perfect way to display your favorite furry friend.

Do you offer payment plans?

We do offer payment plans through a partnership with Affirm. If you would like to explore this option, we will give you a link to scan so you can see what options are available to you.

How often should I get my dog photographed?

Just like our children, we want to document a dog’s “phases” of life. We recommend three sessions over the course of your dog’s lifetime. One in the “puppy” phase (under 2), one in their “prime” (ages 2-7) and a “silver face” session (8 and up), to honor a life well-lived.
